In case you didn't know, my name is Denise Redding and I'm the Landlady of The Queen's Head. Here's a slice of our "story so far..."
Back in October 2004 I took over the lease of the Queens Head. It was a pub which had a chequered history, and a reputation for tenants who only stayed for a short time, but it was a lovely building with a good sized garden and plenty of parking. Definitely potential!
Although I've worked in a number of "fine dining" establishments I didn't want to create another expensive gastro-pub. I wanted the place to become a popular and well regarded pub, a comfortable place for the people of Wing and the surrounding area to come, and where good ale could be supped and decent food eaten. The kind of pub that pubs used to be... but with more than a pickled egg for the peckish!
I have to say that support locally was superb and, with the help of my excellent staff, recognition came pretty fast. In 2006 the Queens Head was awarded the title of The Community Pub of the Year for Aylesbury Vale and the following year the Best Pub in Aylesbury Vale. At the next awards ceremony it received a commendation, the highest award possible given that previous winners are not permitted to win in consecutive years.
Camra has awarded the Queens Head an entry in the Good Beer Guide for the last five years.
Cask Marque has examined the beer and awarded the pub accreditation, a most stringent test.
We are also honoured to have been made Aylesbury Vale Village Food Pub of the Year 2009.
All of which is very nice, and I hope a reflection of the work my terrific team and I have all put in, but we never forget it’s the customers who make my business and they remain my priority.
In August 2009 I bought the freehold of the Queens Head from Punch Taverns. Watch this space!
